These areas are of most concern with theaddition of a new sidewalk on the south side of the street. We are asking as concerned Homestead Valley residents and alsoon behalf of the residents that may be unaware of any potential issuesin this plan, that if this could be done as soon as possible to showthe residents of Evergreen Ave and neighboring residents who use thisstreet the possible (if any) negative impacts that may be potentiallycaused by this new improvement and also the (if any) possitive impactsthat could be more clarified. The last time the plans for a 6 foot wide sidewalk were approved afterthe first meeting in July, there was no mock-up done to show whatimpacts may be implemented. The residents of Evergreen Ave and neighboring areas need to bereassured that this is the best possible plan currently in place, andif changes would need to be made, this mock-up would clarify anyfuture potential issues that could be addressed at the next meetingsto come and before the final approval of the plans.Respectfully,Keith Garriott(Evergreen Ave Resident)FYI here's a copy of :From: Keith Garriott <saveevergreenave@gmail.com>Wed, Dec 1, 2010 at 1:40 PMTo: fmansourian ForEvergreen Avenue Sidewalk Plan.Dear Director Of Public Works Farhad Mansourian,As a current resident for the past 14 years on Evergreen Avenue inHomestead Valley, I'm asking the Department Of Public Works for areply back about the proposed concept plan I sent to the engineers forreview approximately 3 to 4 months ago.I would also like to know if Public Works is currently or perhaps soongoing to review any other concept plans sent in and pertaining to anyother concepts that were brought to the table since the plans firstproposal in July..On several occasions I noted you saying that DPW is accepting inputfrom the residents on Evergreen Avenue and the community of HomesteadValley on this plan.On several occasions I sent other emails concerning the impacts that Ifeel would take effect if a sidewalk is constructed on EvergreenAvenue and possible solutions that I think would benifit for thesafety issues that might be possibly overlooked, and I have yet torecieve a single reply from DPW about my specific concerns.I'm aware that DPW covers alot of ground all through Marin County andthe engineers are busy attending to other projects also, but as aconcerned resident of Homestead, I would greatly appreciate if youcould let me know if my ideas and the concerns for this project ofother residents of this community are being reviewed or plan to be.I would also like to know when a follow up public meeting is going tobe scheduled regarding the progress of the sidewalk plans on EvergreenAvenue, and if any of the input recieved from the community is goingto be put up for review and consideration. If the majority of Homestead residents agree that a sidewalk is thebest plan for an improvement for safety reasons on Evergreen Avenueand a sidewalk is to be built using the SR2S grant, then I would verymuch be interested in the consideration of a practical improvement toEvergreen Avenue and that my plan could be reviewed showing a 4 footwide sidewalk on the south side with a 4 foot wide bike lane/shoulderon the north side designed as a dedicated lane for children bicyclingto school safely and also wheelchair access for the residents who needit because of the newly narrowed road from the proposed sidewalk. The difference between my plan and the current DPW's plan is:DPW's current proposal only addresses one side of the street andserves mainly only one purpose: Pedestrian safety with a ADA compliantsidewalk on one side of the street and a narrower road (to supposelyslow down cars) in areas of the street of already substandard widths. My plan addresses the safety of the whole street access for pedestriansafety, bicyclists, wheelchair and also for the safe travel for motorvehicles because of the noted reduction of sidewalk width toaccomodate use of a 4 foot wide shoulder across the street just bymoving the designated street parking on the north side closer to thefences and painting a line for the shoulder 4 feet from the newdesignated street parking on the newly repaved street.According to the plans that were presented at the November 5th DPWpublic meeting, the plans show a 5 foot wide ADA compliant sidewalk onthe south side of Evergreen Avenue and no pedestrian, wheelchair, orbicycle access on the north side. The plans showed a significantly wide area of space not beingdeveloped on the north side of the street. This area shown currentlyhas vegetation overgrown along the fences leaving a space that couldbe utilized and incorporated into the street improvement plan if thevegetation was simply cut back.A reply back from you is very much appreciated.Sincerly,Keith GarriottEvergreen_Ave_-_4ft_Sidewalk_&_Bike_Path[1].pdf123K View as HTML Scan and download
