Hi Winston,

I have gotten no response from the County about the full scale mock-up
I asked for on behalf of the residents of Homestead.

I recieved emails fowarded to the County from residents in support of
the mock-up request like yours, and as far as I know, there were no
responses to those residents.

I have gotten no response from the email I sent asking that input be
considered from residents on Evergreen Ave and in Homestead toward
developement of the street improvement plans while it's still in it's early
stages (thanks to the extention).

The reason why I think these two requests are important is because
when the next public meeting is scheduled to take place, we won't be
looking at the same plans we've been looking at since July (except for
the fact that the sidewalk was reduced from 6 feet wide to 5 feet).

I'm glad to see that more residents are writing to the County
expressing their concerns about the future safety regarding one of the main
thoroughfares in and out of the valley (and the one that most larger
commercial vehicles prefer to access).

If you don't have time to write your own letter, feel free to copy the
generic letter I wrote for residents to send to DPW and County
Representatives:

Please send this generic email copy if you prefer:

Residents Request A Full Mock-Up of Evergreen Avenue Proposed 5 foot
Wide Sidewalk On South Side Before Plans Are Approved

Dear Director Of Public Works and Engineers involved with the
Evergreen Ave proposed sidewalk planning,

We are respectfully requesting that a temporary mock-up on Evergreen
Avenue be conducted of the newly proposed 5 foot wide sidewalk that is
planned to be constructed on the south side of Evergreen Ave from Melrose to
Scott and Linden Lane To Ethel Ave in the neighborhood of Homestead
Valley in Mill Valley. These areas are of most concern with the
addition of a new sidewalk on the south side of the street.

We are asking as concerned Homestead Valley residents and also
on behalf of the residents that may be unaware of any potential issues
in this plan, that if this could be done as soon as possible to show
the residents of Evergreen Ave and neighboring residents who use this
street the possible (if any) negative impacts that may be potentially
caused by this new improvement and also the (if any) possitive impacts
that could be more clarified.

The last time the plans for a 6 foot wide sidewalk were approved after
the first meeting in July, there was no mock-up done to show what
impacts may be implemented.

The residents of Evergreen Ave and neighboring areas need to be
reassured that this is the best possible plan currently in place, and
if changes would need to be made, this mock-up would clarify any
future potential issues that could be addressed at the next meetings
to come and before the final approval of the plans.

Respectfully,

Keith Garriott

(Evergreen Ave Resident)

Homestead Resident Asking DPW For Public Input To Be Considered For
Evergreen Avenue Sidewalk Plan.

Dear Director Of Public Works Farhad Mansourian,

As a current resident for the past 14 years on Evergreen Avenue in
Homestead Valley, I'm asking the Department Of Public Works for a
reply back about the proposed concept plan I sent to the engineers for
review approximately 3 to 4 months ago.

I would also like to know if Public Works is currently or perhaps soon
going to review any other concept plans sent in and pertaining to any
other concepts that were brought to the table since the plans first
proposal in July..

On several occasions I noted you saying that DPW is accepting input
from the residents on Evergreen Avenue and the community of Homestead
Valley on this plan.

On several occasions I sent other emails concerning the impacts that I
feel would take effect if a sidewalk is constructed on Evergreen
Avenue and possible solutions that I think would benifit for the
safety issues that might be possibly overlooked, and I have yet to
recieve a single reply from DPW about my specific concerns.

I'm aware that DPW covers alot of ground all through Marin County and
the engineers are busy attending to other projects also, but as a
concerned resident of Homestead, I would greatly appreciate if you
could let me know if my ideas and the concerns for this project of
other residents of this community are being reviewed or plan to be.

I would also like to know when a follow up public meeting is going to
be scheduled regarding the progress of the sidewalk plans on Evergreen
Avenue, and if any of the input recieved from the community is going
to be put up for review and consideration.

If the majority of Homestead residents agree that a sidewalk is the
best plan for an improvement for safety reasons on Evergreen Avenue
and a sidewalk is to be built using the SR2S grant, then I would very
much be interested in the consideration of a practical improvement to
Evergreen Avenue and that my plan could be reviewed showing a 4 foot
wide sidewalk on the south side with a 4 foot wide bike lane/shoulder
on the north side designed as a dedicated lane for children bicycling
to school safely and also wheelchair access for the residents who need
it because of the newly narrowed road from the proposed sidewalk.

The difference between my plan and the current DPW's plan is:

DPW's current proposal only addresses one side of the street and
serves mainly only one purpose: Pedestrian safety with a ADA compliant
sidewalk on one side of the street and a narrower road (to supposely
slow down cars) in areas of the street of already substandard widths.

My plan addresses the safety of the whole street access for pedestrian
safety, bicyclists, wheelchair and also for the safe travel for motor
vehicles because of the noted reduction of sidewalk width to
accomodate use of a 4 foot wide shoulder across the street just by
moving the designated street parking on the north side closer to the
fences and painting a line for the shoulder 4 feet from the new
designated street parking on the newly repaved street.

According to the plans that were presented at the November 5th DPW
public meeting, the plans show a 5 foot wide ADA compliant sidewalk on
the south side of Evergreen Avenue and no pedestrian, wheelchair, or
bicycle access on the north side.

The plans showed a significantly wide area of space not being
developed on the north side of the street. This area shown currently
has vegetation overgrown along the fences leaving a space that could
be utilized and incorporated into the street improvement plan if the
vegetation was simply cut back.

A reply back from you is very much appreciated.

Sincerly,

Keith Garriott
